Abhay Sahu the president of PPSS the organization leading the agitation against the POSCO in Kujang in Jagtsinhpur district  was arrested by the Paradip police yesterday evening. He was arrested at about 8 pm on 12 th October near Bhutmundai while retuning from Bhubaneswer to Dhinkia. He was suffering from acute rheumatism and went to Bhubaneswer for a medical checkup. Since the beginning of the agitation against POSCO’s mega steel project the police and local adminstration along with goons from the neighbouring area has unleashed verious measures to repress and break the movement. As a part of this tactic false cases have been filed against activist of the PPSS – virtually all of them have implicated Abhay Sahu.

The news stunned the people of the area since he was leading the anti POSCO movement since 2005 the year the company signed the MOU with the Orissa government. Since then the company has tried at least 20 times to start its work in the proposed area but failed to enter the area due to the opposition by PPSS under his leadership.

Meanwhile the administration has deployed 10 platoons of police from three sides of the area, The police has blocked the Kujang- Balituth, Kujang-Trilochanpur and Paradip- Dhinkia road.*

Many democratic organization of Orissa have condemned the arrest of Mr. Abhay Sahu. The PPSS has appealed all democratic forces to oppose (see draft appeal) the act of the state at the behest of the Company. The PPSS is firm on to carry on the struggle against the Company in future
