save life save dignity

A community led struggle emerged in the Ersamma Block of Jagatsinghpur District, Orissa (India) almost three years ago (June 2005). The agitation, which continues till today is against the forcible take over of lands and resources for a 12 million tonne integrated steel plant to be set up by the third largest multinational steel company of the world – the POHANG Steel Co. – also known as POSCO. The contentious and vehemently opposed project has been backed relentlessly by the State and Central government in the name of development. In reality  the project is  expected to  bring  devastation for the local people as livelihoods and environment both stand threatened. This blog has been set up in solidarity with the movement against POSCO by a group of concerned citizens. The attempt is to consolidate all literature and news that exposes the different dimensions of the proposed project and its fallouts that are not commonly accessible in the mainstream media
